Success stories: digital traceability in action

ACRS Cloud: The Australasian Certification Authority for Reinforcing and Structural Steels (ACRS) has developed a cloud-based verification platform that links QR codes on steel products to digital certificates. This provides real-time access to compliance information and reduces the risk of using unverified materials. The ACRS Cloud app allows steel buyers and users instant assurance over products at the touch of a button. Get product piece of mind by checking the nature and authenticity of ACRS certificates in-app, for trusted traceability from source to site. ACRS Cloud is the first digital certification system of its kind for steel in the New Zealand and Australian construction industries, providing a secure environment for industry to verify products’ conformance to Australian and New Zealand Standards. It moves ACRS full certification and traceability from source to site to a digital system.

InfraBuild Steel – A traceability success story: InfraBuild’s have demonstrated how the framework set out in the NBPC’s Traceability & Digitisation Guide enables end-to-end traceability for steel products in construction. Watch the video for a great example of traceability in action to improve efficiency and the sharing of trusted data across the supply chain.

Timber Chain of Custody: Certification schemes such as Responsible Wood and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) use digital traceability to confirm the origin and sustainability of timber products. These systems show how verified product data can support both compliance and sustainability goals.

Supply Chain Modernisation Project: The Victoria Infrastructure Development Authority (VIDA) Supply Chain Innovation Project demonstrates how traceability standards and technology can track and verify concrete and steel from procurement to payment within Victoria’s Big Build projects, including the Level Crossing Removal Project. By streamlining administration and paperwork, the initiative removed process pain points, improved transparency, provided live delivery status, and enabled faster reconciliation and quality assurance. It also enhanced sustainability tracking, reduced waste, and delivered cost savings through better material management.
